Canto delle scolte

This is based on designs from the Winchester Bible written in the mid twelfth century. The song was written in the tenth century, and is a sung by women to the men guarding their towers, asking them to be vigilant on their watch, as Hector was vigilant on the walls of Troy. This style of illumination is called Romanesque.

Hand painted on calfskin parchment using watercolours, ink and embellished with gold leaf. Original image size 15 x 23 cm
